Treasure Island is an Artificial island that was built in 1939 between San Francisco and Oakland. The island was created from fill removed from the bay and was planned to be used as an airport for Pan Americans Airline service of flying boats. Then during World War II Treasure Island became a naval base and was mainly an electronics and radio communications school. In 1996 the Army Base was decommissioned and the Island was open to the public, but still owned by the Navy.
The island has a total of one gas station on it which is currently unused and it only has a single mini bus route. The Island today is fairly run-down, most of the buildings are deserted with the exception of a job training center and it also houses some low-income San Franciscans. All of this put together means some good skateboarding is to be had, and although the island is not even one square mile big it has 4 or 5 quite amazing spots.
